Sharp Sand also refered to as concrete sand is a versatile aggregate, course in texture and commonly used for screeds, renders or concrete associated with slab laying, block paver laying and landscape groundworks. To produce a concrete mortar the sharp sand needs to be mixed with cement and water at ratio recommended for the application. Typically a ratio of sharp sand:cement of 5:1 would be a suitable slab laying ratio with water added at the workers discretion to produce the desired workabilty. Sharp sand can also be used in gardening / potting applictions, mixing with peat and compost for root cutting and propagating cuttings as it can improve overall soil drainage.
